The overreaching idea of this project was to deal with measured space. “Kind of Blue” is based on a style of jazz called “Modal Jazz” it is a collection of chords that are set in advance and which can be mixed & matched during the session. The actual jazz is very structured and yet open to interpretation with duration of notes and placement of chords. The design attempts to address this issue of repeating chords and selective time intervals with a series of bars with different tonal levels and a an abstract representation of Miles Davis himself.
The CD case includes die cut and plastic lined spaces behind the CD, allowing you to see the disk through the back of the case. There is also a CD booklet and a Mailer/Poster (not shown here).
