Philip Morris Wants you to SMOKE!

Client: Academic
Project Date: 2007

This Anti-Smoking campaign plays off of the idea that an addiction takes away your freedom of choice. It is based on the Soviet Constructivist style of poster design and appropriates some images from that era and from cigarette commerce to communicate the authoritarian connection with smoking.

The text printed on the back of the postcard (design 4) is quoted below:

"Nicotine is a Highly Addictive Substance. With as few as 5 cigarettes, nicotine can strip you of your free will. Smokers are forced to live lives subservient to a substance that controls their finances, their health, their family and their time. Many become chemically brainwashed to such an extent, that they are willing to ignore warning signs of the deteriorating health of themselves and their family. Don’t allow cigarettes to be the commander of your actions. Fight back against nicotine’s ruthless tactics!"
