Client: Academic & The Telfair Museum of Art
Project Date: 2007
The Telfair Museum of Art (The largest fine art gallery in Savannah - comprised of three unique historical buildings) requested a Re-branding proposal for the museum. They faced a challenge, where the public viewed each building as a separate gallery rather than as parts of a single entity. A new branding system would unite these 3 buildings under a single theme.
I developed a 3 mark system where combined, the marks represent the museum as a whole, and separate they represent each venue individually. Each mark is based on the classic art museum framed square. A symbol representing the historic building is knocked out of each square. For the Telfair Academy of Art (depicted 2nd) you can see the relationship drawn between the flourish in the mark and the flourish adorning the classic column at the front of the building (right). For the contemporary Jepson Center (designed by Moshe Safdie) stripes representing the building's signature light refractions through its many skylights inspired the design for the mark.
